Obstetrics and gynecology is one of the four major disciplines in clinical medicine, which mainly studies the etiology, pathology, diagnosis and prevention of female reproductive organs diseases, physiological and pathological changes of pregnancy and childbirth, prevention and treatment of high-risk pregnancy and dystocia, female reproductive endocrine, family planning and women’s health care, etc. The in-depth study of modern molecular biology, oncology, genetics, reproductive endocrinology and immunology and the progress of clinical medical diagnosis and treatment technology have broadened and deepened the development of obstetrics and gynecology, and played an important role in ensuring women’s physical and reproductive health and preventing and treating various obstetrics and gynecology diseases.
Obstetrics and gynecology is not only closely related to surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics and other clinical sciences, but also needs the basic knowledge of modern diagnosis and treatment technology (endoscopy, imaging, radiation intervention, etc.), clinical pharmacology, pathology embryology, anatomy, epidemiology and other disciplines.
